First and Third Tuesdays, Nov. 2021 through Sep. 20, 2022

SERIES CONCLUDED – Check out our current OUD ECHO education offerings

Stratis Health and the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians partnered to host this no-cost virtual education on opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment in Minnesota.

Sessions occurred on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, from 12:15-1:15 p.m., beginning Tuesday, November 2, 2021, and ending Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Only one session in December (first Tuesday) and July (third Tuesday).

Presenters

Heather Bell, MD, Kurt DeVine, MD, Family and Addiction Medicine
Drs. Bell and DeVine began their careers as rural primary care physicians. With the surge in opioid prescribing and the mounting opioid epidemic, in 2015, they started an opioid stewardship program through state funding that led to pilot programs in 12 Minnesota communities. Funding through the Minnesota Department of Health enabled these communities to focus on appropriate opioid prescribing and medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) treatment with technical assistance provided by Bell and DeVine. After notable success in their local programs, the Department of Human Services provided funding for Bell and DeVine to facilitate a Project ECHO telehealth weekly teaching program focused on opioid prescribing and addiction topics, now in its fourth year. Their passion in this field led them both to pursue additional board certification in addiction medicine. Their work has led to recognition, most notably, the American Hospital Association Nova Award, and the 2020 Minnesota Medical Association President’s Award. Recently, they were named Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians 2021 Family Physicians of the Year.
