Our Past, Present, and Future
Stratis Health improves health care quality and patient safety – locally and nationally – at the clinician, organization, and community levels and across the full continuum of care. Established as the Foundation for Health Care Evaluation in 1971, Stratis Health was launched in conjunction when the Health Outcomes Institute merged into the organization in 1997.
Our work in the earlier decades focused on quality assurance. As the field of health care quality advanced to embrace quality improvement science and tools and emerging models such as Baldrige and Lean, so did Stratis Health. With each passing year, we deepen our commitment to improving health and health care.
In 2021, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. We remain true to our mission and do so by embracing new and emerging improvement methodologies and deepening our work to bridge health care and community.

The COC is a longstanding group of consumers Stratis Health convenes quarterly to discuss, learn, and share health care issues that are timely and relevant to older adults and Medicare beneficiaries. In addition to consumers, participants include representatives from organizations representing and supporting seniors (e.g., AARP, Senior Linkage Line, MN Board on Aging, Social Security Office, ESRD Network 11, state ombudsman office, Minnesota health plans, MN long-term care associations, the local staff of our federal Congressional delegation…). We are always interested in adding new members representing diversity of thought and lived experience. Please send an email to info@stratishealth.org (with “J. Kornberg – COC” in the subject line) for membership information.
Building Healthier Communities
Our Board of Directors dedicates a portion of the organization’s reserves to an award program called “Building Healthier Communities.” Awards take the form of small grants that serve as catalysts for collaboration and innovation to nurture health care quality in Minnesota. The selected projects must be innovative, drive impact, and ensure sustainability. The awards emphasize our long-standing commitment to health equity and to patient safety and family engagement.
